If they aren’t secured by a lock and key, catalytic converters may be stolen. Many car manufacturers use security measures such as alarms and immobilizers to protect their vehicles. The theft of expensive catalytic converters is a common occurrence in serious auto thefts. The most valuable items such as expensive watches and other luxury items, are often taken away together with catalytic converters. In fact, in recent years, it’s become far more common for thieves to take catalytic converters than it has been for stolen cars.

The only way to ensure that catalytic converters do not disappear is to make sure that the person who owns them installed them properly, and that they are locked when parked.
