I’m often shocked that folks don’t think about chiropractic look after hand and wrist pain. We do more than just low back and neck pain. We are taught to deal with the spine and most different joints of the body as well as the hand and wrist.
There are non-surgical treatment options for ganglion cysts; for cysts on the wrist and cysts on the finger. The first option is to do nothing – the mass may just go away on its own. If the cyst is not painful, not limiting activity, and not too big or uncomfortable, this is a good option.
Becoming aware of incorrect shooting mechanics or bad shooting habits is the first step, and unless we can be aware of them and challenge them before they happen, they will dictate why we shoot the way we do. And the more imbedded they are, the more they will keep returning unless we apply mindfulness and awareness of these generally mediocre mechanics. Remember that the National free throw percentage for High Schools in the US is around 65%, Colleges and Universities hover around 68% and the NBA jumps a few notches to around 72% from the line which in my estimation is still mediocrity. It is hard to believe that the best players in the world only average about 5 percentage points better than the National High school average.
If your work situation cannot be modified to avoid bending your hand at the wrist, ask your physician to prescribe a wrist brace, Orthopedic Splint in Physical Therapy Equipment or arm brace. You can purchase wrist braces over the counter as well. With a prescription, many insurance providers will cover the cost of the brace. A wrist brace will help you keep your wrist as straight as possible. The brace will take some of the pressure off from your wrist as well. For those who already suffer from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, look for a brace that goes mid way up your arm. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is notorious for causing sharp pains that shoot up the arm to the elbow. Wear your brace especially at night. My arms and hands don’t hurt too much during the day, but at night the cramps and burning pain will wake me from a sound sleep.
However, you’ll want to use caution when buying online. You may find a great price, but if the bat doesn’t fit you, or doesn’t fit your child, then maybe that great deal wasn’t so great after all.
9) Take a drop. Your not a tour player and even they get injuries because they should have dropped. One bad swing into a root or rock can mean a serious hand or wrist injury or worse. Just remember Paula Creamer (LPGA tour player) injured her hand in this way and she has been suffering physically and professionally ever since.
Diagnosis is based on the patient’s history (how he or she noticed the mass), where the lump is and what it feels like. Sometimes patients say they remember injuring the hand or wrist several weeks before noticing the cyst, but most patients can’t remember a specific event.
For extreme pain, alternating ice and heat can help. Treat your sore joints and hands with Arnica gel. Arnica is a homeopathic remedy that is sold in a cream form. Arnica helps reduce swelling and inflammation. Glucosamine is a supplement that supports joint health. If you can tolerate it, try a NSAID (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug) like ibuprofen for intense pain. Surgery is an option for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. I’m saving that option as a last resort. Typically, I can manage my Carpal Tunnel Syndrome with the afore-mentioned treatments.
